Ask Questions and Recieve an Honest Answer or Lie?

I have chosen to ask questions because I could find out many things if I can ask questions. Lying could make me feel guilty and I may not be believed anyway. I would definatley choose asking questions because I am a curious person.

Jonas' Journal

Today was the ceremony of twelve. I was very apprehensive about what assignment I would be given. But when the elder skipped my name I was on the urge of panicking. But soon the elder corrected my fears by announcing I had been chosen. I am now the receiver, but a little more than apprehensive.

Symbolism:
Most ads show symbolism as an object standing for what their advertising. This ad, however, uses reverse symbolism; using what their advertising (PSP) to stand for something else (Handcuffs).

The body language of the police show that they are attentive and fixated to solving the problem at hand. The body language of the man is similar, showing that he is fixated on the PSP.

Camera Angles:
The camera angle of this ad does not specifically highlight anything, instead shooting the scene from a point where everything can be seen clearly.

There are no obvious special effects in this ad, though the city in the background may be added in or Computer-generated.

Lighting And Colour:
The whole ad is pretty well lit up, even though it is set near night, thanks to lights on the police car and in the background.

No real models appear in this ad, though the police man in the foreground is obviously a high ranked officer.
Layout And Graphics:
The actual PSP that is being advertised is small compared to the ad as a whole, allowing the every detail of the scene to be seen.

Aspects of a mystery

The picture of a man with a cap and magnifying glass is a picture of Sherlock Holmes. He is a famous detective.

There is a picture of someone getting their pocket picked. In this picture the lady is the victim.

There is a picture of a star wars book called the only witness. In this book some one must be saved because they witnessed a crime.

There is a collection of cluedo cards. The people on these cards are the suspects in the game of cluedo.

The picture of a fish is a red herring. A red herring is something the throws the good guy off the trail.

The stick figure picture of someone holding a gun is the depiction of a crime.

Monk 1

Today and yesterday in class we watched an episode of the TV show Monk which goes with our mystery unit in english class. Here is a synopsis of the episode;

"An old woman named Martha is found dead after being hit by a baseball being used by a young baseball league. There is nothing criminal about this but when Martha's family come to visit Martha's home they find a package which had been sent three days earlier. The package has been opened and inside is a voodoo doll with abaseball attatched to its head.

Inspector Monk, Natalee (Monk's secutary), Captain Stottlemeyer and Lieutenant Disher are soon at the death scene. When Monk, Stottlemeyer and Disher start joking about witch -doctors and voodoo Natalee rounds on them and insists that voodoo is real. While Natalee argues against Monk and Stottlemeyer, Disher receives a call and soon repeats it to the others. There has been another voodoo death.

The team are meated at the dead man's house by the police. The police hands Monk a newspaper about the incident of a golfer being struck by lightning and the article has a photo of a paramedic next to a stretcher. Inside the house is a voodoo doll with a lightning bolt coming out of its head. It was posted three days before the man's death. The case is becoming spooky and Natalee is becoming scared.

The next day Natalee comes barging into Monk's home with a suitcase and insists on Monk coming with her on a vacation. Monk asks her to call Captain Stottlemeyer to see if this is okay. Natalee picks up the phone and chats sweetly into the phone. When she finishes Monk notes that the phone Natalee just 'called' the captain on is unpluged and Natalee breaks down. She confesses that she was hust trying to get out of town and away from the case. Mr. Monk tries to calm her down but Natalee reveals that a third voodoo death has bee found."

I don't have much time for anything else so I will finish the story in a second post
To be continued...

The Plastiki

The Plastiki is a new boat that floats using 12, 500 recycled plastic bottles. It will be on a trip from San Fransisco to Sydney to raise awareness of plastic bottles left in the ocean. 1 million sea birds and 100, 000 marine mammals die by becoming tangled in or eating rubbish left in the ocean each year.

Being 60 feet in length and weighing 12 tons, the Plastiki has many modern sailing devices and also has eco-friendly systems such as solar panels, wind turbines and bicycle generators. It will take approximately 3 months to reach Sydney and the crew will visit a few environmental hotspots en route.
The crew will only be eating food from a can and fruit and will only be drinking rainwater. Everyone on board is a strong supporter of reuse, reduce, recycle and rethink. Good luck Plastiki!

What I know about Haiti

1. The main causes for Haiti's poor state before the earthquake is bad politics and government, not much schooling and such a large population for such a small country.

2. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and the 4th poorest in the world.

3. Haitians were slaves of France until 1791, when the Haitians made a reveloution and killed 150,000 french, the most ever killed in a revelotion.

4. In 1802, Nepolion sent an army of 20,000 frenchmen to recapture Haiti.

5. After all of that it must be very hard for an over-populated country to rebound.

Haiti Update

Haiti's status has not improved over the last week. Now the shock of the earthquake is over and people are rushing to help and causing chaotic situations.
Such as the situation at Haiti airport. With places for 18 planes and only one runway, the 17 countries trying to have help sent to Haiti are finding it difficult to get to the ground. The picture to the left is of Haiti airport, or what it used to look like.

My Christmas Holidays

Christmas

On the 18th of December, a week till christmas, I attended an Australian Embassy christmas party. The party was held at the Australian Ambassador's residence and I had to arrive early because I had to practice some christmas carols I was going to sing with some other children.
When the guests arrived the children started singing and soon all of the adults had joined in. Afterwards Santa Claus appeared and gave out presents from under a big christmas tree. I received a book I had wanted for christmas. Finally everyone entred the dining room for food. My favourite food was the rocky road.
Altogether it was a fantastic christmas and celebration.
