1. The main causes for Haiti's poor state before the earthquake is bad politics and government, not much schooling and such a large population for such a small country.
2. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and the 4th poorest in the world.
3. Haitians were slaves of France until 1791, when the Haitians made a reveloution and killed 150,000 french, the most ever killed in a revelotion.
4. In 1802, Nepolion sent an army of 20,000 frenchmen to recapture Haiti.
5. After all of that it must be very hard for an over-populated country to rebound.

Haiti Update
Haiti's status has not improved over the last week. Now the shock of the earthquake is over and people are rushing to help and causing chaotic situations.
Such as the situation at Haiti airport. With places for 18 planes and only one runway, the 17 countries trying to have help sent to Haiti are finding it difficult to get to the ground. The picture to the left is of Haiti airport, or what it used to look like.

Earthquake in Haiti
In Haiti, 3 days ago, there was a massive earthquake that leveled many buildings. Haiti is a small island located in the Caribbean sea. It is near the island of Cuba and shares an island with the Dominican Republic. The Haiti capital of Port-au-Prince was feared to be hit the worst with around 50, 000 thought dead.
The picture above shows many people who have lost their homes. Many people and celebrities from all over the world are donating money to th red cross service, who are helping give these people shelter.

My Christmas Holidays
On the 18th of December, a week till christmas, I attended an Australian Embassy christmas party. The party was held at the Australian Ambassador's residence and I had to arrive early because I had to practice some christmas carols I was going to sing with some other children.
When the guests arrived the children started singing and soon all of the adults had joined in. Afterwards Santa Claus appeared and gave out presents from under a big christmas tree. I received a book I had wanted for christmas. Finally everyone entred the dining room for food. My favourite food was the rocky road.
Altogether it was a fantastic christmas and celebration.

A Christmas Carol
*****
A Christmas Carol is my favourite classic. It follows the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge, a crabby, money-loving businessman whom Disney's Scrooge McDuck is based on.
Scrooge's story starts on Christmas eve, exactly 7 years since his business partner, Jacob Marley, had died. Scrooge ended Christmas eve by putting down an offer of a Christmas dinner by his nephew and denying some money to men who want to donate to the poor. Then he grudgingly allowed his clerk christmas day off and left his counting house for home.
But Scrooge wa in for a big surprise when Jacob Marley decided to visit him. 7 year-dead Jacob Marley. Marley warns Scrooge of their wasted time on Earth and that Scrooge will be haunted by three spirits.
After that Scrooge finds himself whiling through time, seeing the fate of all he knows and reliving his most emotional Christmases. My favourite part is
Fezziwig's Party, a party in full swing with two fiddlers that Dickens describes unbelievebly.
Scrooge's journey through christmas past, present and future has made many films and I have just seen Disney's A Christmas Carol, 2009. An animated movie and very well pictured, after reading the book and seeing the movie I relised that the two were almost identicle. To the left is Scrooge from the 2009 film, whom I think has a very accurate expression on his face.
